Coverage of the public wage sources

For roofer comparisons, use SOC 47-2181 and the exact state or metropolitan area. BLS OEWS measures wage-and-salary employment and excludes self-employment. Its wage concept is straight-time gross pay; overtime, shift differentials and employer benefit costs are excluded, while some incentive compensation is included. Annual and hourly estimates commonly use a 2,080-hour conversion. Read the source notes for exceptions.

That means an annual wage benchmark is not directly comparable with a traveler’s paycheck including overtime and reimbursements, a contractor-owner’s profit or a union total-benefit package. Estimator and management data require their own occupation definitions.

A reproducible citation record

For each published number, retain: source organization; table/profile; occupation code; geography; reference period; release or update date; measure; value; source URL; and date checked. For example: Roofers / SOC 47-2181 / Texas / May 2025 / annual median / $46,030 / O*NET display of BLS data / checked October 23, 2026.

Keep example calculations labeled as hypothetical. Keep source data and editorial interpretation visibly separate. If the original table changes, recheck the value and definitions together rather than changing only the number.

This is a dated editorial collection. It has no automatic data pipeline or promised refresh frequency. Report a discrepancy with the exact page, figure and primary source through Corrections.

Separate different kinds of information

Government occupational statistics, employer-advertised ranges, and a user’s own pay calculations answer different questions. A posted range is not proof of what every worker earns. A calculator based on your inputs is not a market salary prediction.

Compare consistent measures

  • Identify the occupation, location, source, and reference period.
  • Separate hourly wages, annual salary, commission, bonuses, and benefits.
  • State assumptions about hours, paid weeks, and overtime.
  • Do not imply a broad market average from a small set of listings.
  • Distinguish gross pay from take-home pay and reimbursements.

Use the current pages appropriately

Roof Jobs salary guides provide comparison frameworks and clearly labeled examples. They do not claim a proprietary wage survey or real-time salary database. For published occupational figures, consult the original BLS tables and their notes.

If you find an incorrect figure or misleading comparison, send the page URL and supporting source through Contact. Read our corrections policy.
